SHORT BREAKS FUN DAY
Friday 22nd July 2016
Chartwells were asked to attend Short Breaks Fun and Information Day for the first time this year to provide nutritious healthy food for all to purchase. This comprised of a selection of filled baguettes and sandwiches along with pasta salad pots which were complimented by fruit pieces and a selection of water and soft drinks which are currently sold at secondary colleges.
We also provided some entertainment/a fun element through our Eat Right Stay Bright programme – a partnership with Public Health to enable healthy living amongst school age children. We have a few initiatives/ outcomes to follow and below are a couple that were used on this day:
· Demonstrate the Change for Life sugar swap information – this is presented by using items that are frequently seen in packed lunches and shown how much sugar is in each item (5g being the child’s recommended daily allowance)
· Providing fun with food in ‘telling the Hungry Caterpillar’ story
· Painting butterflies – demonstrating the last stage of the above story
· Food games – for pupils to engage and understand the food groups
