Ready Steady Cook
In February 2020, the pupils at Newton Farm and Roxbourne Primary took part in a very special assembly with Chartwells’ Chef- James Plumridge- their very own cooking show! As well as the cooking, the pupils also learnt a lot about food groups, 5 a day and why it is important to eat a healthy breakfast to start the day!
For the cooking show, we had a red team and a green team and 2 trays of mystery ingredients- Ready Steady Cook style! Each team included a head chef teacher and 3 pupil chefs and each team was tasked with making a healthy, balanced, well presented plate of food in just 15 minutes! The teams used recipes from our very own school dinners- a mild Sweet Potato Curry and a Quorn Bolognese!
There was lots of interactivity with pupils getting involved in observing the chefs and we had our very own taste team from the audience to test the final product! We finished the show with a vote, each pupil showing the red or green side of their card to choose the winner!
